Before you press send

What to check first.

  • The IRS must receive the form within 120 days of the date you sign it, or it is rejected.
  • Check the box in the signature area confirming you have the authority to sign. If it is unchecked, the form is not processed.
  • Asking for more than one transcript and the chart shows two numbers? Use the one for the address on your most recent return.
  • A representative can sign only if Form 2848, line 5, gives them that authority, with the Form 2848 attached.
If fax isn’t the best route

Other ways to file.

  • Get Transcript on IRS.gov, or the automated transcript line at 1-800-908-9946.
  • By mail, to the RAIVS Team address for your state in the same chart.

After you fax it

  • Transcripts go only to the taxpayer’s address of record. Since July 2019 the IRS no longer mails them to third parties; a lender that needs one uses the IRS’s IVES program.
