Bring your fax number. Keep every fax coming.

Move the fax number you already have, local or toll-free, from anywhere in the US or Canada. Moving it is free. You sign the transfer letter online, we deal with your current carrier, and most numbers move within one to two weeks.

Once it moves, every fax to it arrives in your HelpMeFax inbox with an email alert, for $11.99 a month plus 5¢ per page received.

How it works

Four steps, about ten minutes of yours.

  1. 1

    Check the number

Enter it under Inbox › Bring your number. We ask the carrier database straight away whether it can move, and show you the answer for each number before you give us anything else.

  2. 2

    Give the account details

The name on the account, its service address, the account number and any transfer PIN, exactly as your current carrier has them, plus a bill from the last 30 days.

  3. 3

    Sign the transfer letter

Read the letter of authorization on screen and sign it with your finger or mouse. The first month ($11.99) comes off your balance, and is refunded if the number cannot be moved.

  4. 4

    We take it from there

We check every request, send it to your current carrier, and email you when the date is confirmed and again when the number is receiving faxes on HelpMeFax.

What it costs

Free to move. The number is $11.99 a month.

  • No charge to move the number, local or toll-free.
  • The first month ($11.99) is taken from your balance when you sign, and refunded if the number cannot be moved.
  • After the move, $11.99 a month plus $0.05 per page received, the same as any HelpMeFax number.
  • A Professional plan includes one number and an Enterprise plan five: a number you bring can use that slot.
  • A number you bring is never released automatically if a renewal is late. We keep it and contact you.

  • Your account number, PIN and bill are encrypted, and the PIN and bill are deleted when the move is done.
Questions

Moving a fax number, answered.

How much does it cost to port a fax number?

Moving the number is free. Once it is with HelpMeFax it costs $11.99 a month plus $0.05 per page received, like any HelpMeFax number. The first month is taken from your balance when you sign the transfer letter, and it is refunded if the number cannot be moved. A Professional plan includes one number and an Enterprise plan includes five, and a number you bring can use that slot.

How long does a fax number transfer take?

Most numbers move within one to two weeks, and many toll-free numbers within about a week. A transfer takes longer when the details do not match your current carrier's records, which is why we ask for the account details exactly as on your bill.

Can I port a toll-free fax number?

Yes. Toll-free numbers in the 800, 833, 844, 855, 866, 877 and 888 prefixes can move, along with local numbers anywhere in the US and Canada. Toll-free carriers compare the signature on the transfer letter with the one on file, so sign it the way you signed with them.

Does my fax number keep working during the transfer?

Yes. It stays with your current carrier until the transfer date they confirm. Keep that service active until we tell you the move is done: cancelling it first can lose the number.

Can I still take phone calls on the number?

No. Once it moves to HelpMeFax the number receives faxes only, not voice calls. Faxes you send go out from shared HelpMeFax sending numbers.

What if my number cannot be moved?

We check before you sign and tell you which numbers can move. If the carrier still refuses one later, its first month is refunded to your balance and the number stays where it is.

Can I move only some numbers on an account?

Yes. The main (billing) number on the account has to stay with your current carrier, unless you ask them to make a different number the main one first.

What do I need to transfer my fax number?

The name on the account exactly as it appears on your bill, the service address, the account number, the transfer PIN if your carrier uses one, the main number on the account, and a bill from the last 30 days, as a PDF or a photo.

Can I move my number away from HelpMeFax later?

Yes. Contact support and we will help with the transfer to your new provider.
